Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Until July 2024, when I was unfortunately diagnosed with an aggressive form of Breast Cancer, I had never heard of the Lincoln City Foundation and was unaware of the outstanding contributions it provides our local community. Now, the Foundation is such an important part of my life and I wouldn’t be without the support it provides me. Lincoln City Foundation, particularly its Fighting Fit Cancer Program, will always hold a special place in my heart. It has brought out the best in me and has taught me what is truly important.
I attend the Fighting Fit sessions on a weekly basis (sometimes twice a week!) led by Phill Watson – an experienced, knowledgeable and all round nice guy . Sometimes I don’t feel the best, but I go, knowing that there is no judgement, there are people there who get what I am going through and that EVERY time I go, I come away energised and feeling better about myself. I benefit not only physically from the sessions but also mentally and I wouldn’t have had the cancer journey I have had without the support of this group.
Since becoming a member of Fighting Fit, I have learned so much more about what other support the Foundation provides the community in which I live. I learned how the variety of groups it provides, makes a difference to so many people in the area and how much it helps those people, just like it has helped me. Eager to be involved with this support in our community, I soon become a volunteer for the Foundation and now help at the weekly “Extra-Time Hub” session in Bracebridge Heath working alongside Tom Rawlinson. I love helping at these sessions and I think I gain as much (if not more) from the sessions, than the participants gain themselves.
I am now running the Lincoln Half marathon on behalf of the Foundation to give back to this amazing organisation. It will be the longest I have ran since being diagnosed with Breast Cancer and for some years previous to this so it’s a massive challenge for me. I am, however, very determined to run my heart out and hopefully raise an amazing amount of money for the Foundation.
Please donate whatever you can to my Just Giving page for Lincoln City Foundation to help me give back to them for all they have provided, and continue to provide for me and my wider community. Every penny will be used to further extend their ability to help others.
