Story
Hi All,
First of all, thank you for taking the time to read this and sponsor me. Its very much appreciated.
I have managed to get a place in the London Marathon, I have tried for so many years to get in and I am lucky enough to get a place in April 2025. I am not a runner, and am starting from scratch. After cancer treatment it is a bit of a struggle with the joints and the muscle strength but I am giving it my best shot.
I have decided to raise money for the Motor neurone disease Association. In May 2022 my Dad was diagnosed with Motor neurone disease, watching him steadily decline and him be so afraid of what was going to happen to him in the coming months was beyond heartbreaking. I want to raise money to help find a cure for Motor neurone disease (if that is at all possible), it is such a cruel disease. My Dad bravely battled this hideous disease but sadly passed away in January 2023.
7 months later I lost my beautiful Mum who had been diagnosed with Parkinsons disease in 2016 and unbeknownst to us was battling Multiple myeloma for some years (a terminal cancer).
They were both in their very early 70s and up until this point were healthy and active people.
There isn't a day goes by where I don't think of what they both went through and I am running this marathon in memory of my parents, and whatever I can raise for MND I will match (up to £1k) and give to Parkinsons UK.
Motor neurone disease (MND) is a progressive disease that attacks the motor neurones, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord. This means messages gradually stop reaching muscles, which leads to weakness and wasting.
MND can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe. However, not all symptoms necessarily happen to everyone and it is unlikely they will all develop at the same time, or in any specific order.
Although there is currently no cure for MND, symptoms can be managed to help you achieve the best possible quality of life.
