I'm fundraising for Rethink Mental Illness

Great North Run 2024 · 8 September 2024 ·
In September 2024, I will be participating in the Great North Run to raise funds for Rethink Mental Illness.
It will have been a year since my life changed dramatically. Following years of managing depression (never given a diagnosis, just medication), I finally hit a rock bottom I didn’t think possible. November 22nd 2023, I wanted it all to end. But I am still here thanks to some of the most wonderful people who have supported me through a new diagnosis, a huge change to medication whilst as a psychiatric inpatient, continued support since discharge and generally having my back when I still have days when my world is falling apart.
Mental illness should not be a secret, it is not to be ashamed of or hidden, it is real and the impact it has had on my life and those close to me is huge. I am in recovery, taking each day as it comes but I will run the Great North Run because I’ll be there to do it (with some great supporters cheering me on).
Nobody should feel how I felt/feel and think they’re on their own. Rethink Mental Illness offers so much support to better educate people, not just the sufferers but the families impacted by it also. Giving to this wonderful charity will help people like me find someone to help but also help those caring for people with mental health issues.
That's why I am running this half marathon - to help Rethink Mental Illness continue their mission of improving the lives of those affected by severe mental health issues.
