Lisa Wainwright is raising money for Friends of the Baby Unit

Esme’s 12 marathons of 2025

The Friends of the Baby Unit was established 49 years ago (1976) to raise money for equipment for use in the intensive care of preterm and sick newborn babies being cared for on the Neonatal unit at The Royal Derby Hospital. The money raised over that time is now over £2 million pounds. Thank you

Story

Hi my name is Esme, and I love to run! I was born early and poorly, I spent the first few weeks of my life in neonatal intensive care. The doctors made me better, and now I am a 9 year old, healthy girl who loves running. Every year since I was five I’ve been fundraising to give back to the unit that saved my life. In 2025 I am turning ten, and I wanted to do a big challenge to raise money, so I am running a marathon in a month, every month for a year! 314.4 miles over the year of 2025. Every penny raised goes to friends of the baby unit- a charity who buys life saving equipment and anything the Derby NICU need. I would love to help buy something to help the poorly babies get better and have the chance of life that I have. I feel so lucky and I want to give back and help the other babies.
