My Story…
9th April will be a date that forever stays with us, A day that gave us so much upset, A day that we thought we would have had to say goodbye to our Dad, Father in Law & Grandpa following such a freak accident.
Looking back - 9th April is also a day that inspired me, A day that my dad shown me his strength and proved that it wasnt his time to go, A day that shown me how amazing our emergency services teams are and how forever grateful I will be.
The first responders - Leicester Fire & Rescue, East Midlands Ambulance Service, Leicestershire Police and the Air ambulance service were all there proving that they are true hero’s!, ones who do not get enough recognition!
They fought with every beat in their body to make sure that the beat in my dads was restarted, And it was!
Their fast acting professionalism helped retrieve my dad who had his Range Rover roll onto him and crush him as he lay underneath it.
They did life saving procedures on the scene which involved them making incisions in both sides of his chest to get to his lungs and inflate them- he was bleeding internally and the blood was crushing his lungs with 13 fractured ribs, a fractured spine and ruptured spleen. They also did a blood transfusion on scene too, as well as performing CPR for over 40 minutes - They did not give up on my dad no matter how tiring it was pumping his chest! They believed in him, even when I started to loose hope as I watched helplessly.
Dad was blue lighted to QMC via road (too critical for air) along with all the medics he needed. He had a secondary cardiac arrest which was expected and again, they continued to do what they do best.
He was then placed in the hands of the wonderful Intensive care team who worked miracles on my dad. After being placed in an induced coma and having numerous operations, my dad was able to rest in the hands of the best professionals surrounding him. Constantly monitoring and observing him with the best 1:1 care.
This was the start of a long journey for my Dad. With continuous tests, scans and procedures to help aid my dads recovery.
From being moved from QMC ICU to Major trauma unit and now to Leicester Brain injury rehabilitation unit, he is moving in the right direction thanks to him being such a fighter and having the best people around him. Still in hospital and taking each day as it comes, getting stronger by the day!
From the children who found him under the car, to his family on scene ringing 999, the first responders & the ongoing care he is receiving by so many - I Thank you massively!
This is in short, the reason why I want to take the opportunity to abseil down the QMC hospital, to raise money for the adult ICU at the Queens medical centre as a personal token of Thanks.
Because of them, as a family we can continue to spend time with our Dad, Father in Law & Grandpa and still tell him we love him very much! Without them , this would have all been lost.
Im so proud to call him my Dad!
Any amount donated will be greatly appreciated. Thank you,
