Story

Thank you for visiting my page. In May 2026, I will be participating in a mixed doubles hyrox at Cardiff with my boyfriend to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

In November 2022, 1 month after turning 21, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer that had spread to the lymph nodes in my neck. Your thyroid is a gland in the bottom of your neck responsible for functions like metabolism regulation, brain and muscle health, body temperature regulation and so much more.

This was a terrifying encounter for myself, but also for my friends and family. Being so young as well, I didn't know anyone around me who had experienced something like this. I was told that thyroid cancer is "the good cancer" or "if you're going to get cancer, this is the one to get", which couldn't be further from the truth. Even 3 and a half years on from my initial diagnosis, the effects I experience from treatment/medication are profound, and I still struggle today.

Macmillan were one of the charities who have supported me tremendously right from the start. My family and I have received information, psychological and financial support, someone to answer all of our questions, and so much more. I was also provided with counselling sessions from experts and physiotherapy following surgery. Even if it's just someone to talk to: not once was I made to feel like a burden. They have supported me in the ways I needed it most. For that, I will always be grateful and indebted to them.

Whilst my boyfriend is a bit of a veteran when it comes to hyrox, this will be my first one! Anyone who knows me knows that I DESPISE running, so having to go from zero to 8k (with weight stations in between each run) will certainly be interesting to say the least!

If you can donate to both of our pages and share the links, we would really appreciate it. The work that charities like Macmillan do is instrumental. 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. You never think it will happen to you until you receive that phone call from the doctor, and your whole world comes crashing down around you. It is imperative that we help those going through cancer and their families to receive the support that they not only need but also deserve. Macmillan is just one of the incredible charities that will help to provide this.

Thank you
