Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am running the London Landmarks Half Marathon on April 6th 2025 for Ahead Of The Game Foundation and here is my story....

On November 13th 2023 I was diagnosed with a Brain Tumour. As you can only imagine this was devastating news for me and for my family. I spent the first few weeks in a dark hole, focusing on only the negative information I had been given about my diagnosis. I was terrified that I'd be leaving my daughter without her mummy, she was only 1 year old. (She is almost 3 now and I thank my lucky stars for her every single day).

I was diagnosed with a low grade glioma and have remained stable since the diagnosis. Surgery has been booked and cancelled this year which has forced me to deal with many new emotions but I am so grateful for the time to learn more about myself and this diagnosis. I am on a watch and wait with scans every 3/6 months after each scan a treatment plan is discussed.

Eventually I found it in me to start learning about thriver stories and this is when I found Ahead of The Game Foundation.

The Ahead Of The Game Foundation aims to help bridge the gap in providing a fully funded rehabilitation programme to anyone diagnosed with Cancer. The Health & Wellbeing Cancer Rehabilitation Programme helps to improve not only physical, but mental wellbeing post diagnosis.

I have weekly PT sessions which is funded by them, I have access to yoga and pilates, my family are offered support and I have guidance from Dave Bolton (founder), who is thriving 10 years after his brain tumour diagnosis.

Finding this charity was the turning point for me and I just hope and pray that others facing similar diagnosis also find the way to them so, it is so important to raise the funds to keep them going and doing what they do best.

I have changed my lifestyle this year and one of my MRI results showed the tumour to be SMALLER! and I am just about to get my driving licence back! I believe cancer treatment shouldn't start and end with conventional treatments and my belief is thanks to this wonderful charity.

Please donate - every little really does help.

Thanks for reading, Lisa xx
