Story
For those who don't know, my gorgeous step-mum, Sally, sadly passed away in May this year.
In September, I'll be taking part in Suicide&Co's 36km Challenge. The 36k represents the 36,000 people across the UK who are newly bereaved by suicide each year, helping to raise awareness of the often-overlooked impact that suicide has on families, friends and loved ones left behind. I am completing this challenge in the form of the National Three Peaks, where I'll be climbing the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon), all within 24 hours, covering around 37km of distance!
Sally was an amazing teacher, councillor and life coach who helped countless individuals and families through difficult times. She was loved by so many and remains one of the most inspirational people I've ever known. Sadly, despite helping others throughout her life, she could no longer win her own battle with mental health.
After a suicide, much of the conversation rightly focuses on prevention, but less attention is given to those left behind. For my close family and I, this grieving process has been traumatic beyond words. Suicide&Co provides specialist bereavement counselling and support to people navigating the devastating loss of a loved one to suicide.
Every £30 donated funds a counselling session for someone who needs it.
Thank you for supporting this challenge, helping to honour Sally's memory, and supporting a charity that helps people rebuild their lives after loss.
P.S. This is your sign to check in on someone who may need it right now! Lots of love, Liss x
