The Daisy Garland is a charity working exclusively for children and families whose lives have been touched by drug-resistant epilepsy. Set up in 2004 in memory of our daughter, Daisy, we provide positive support for some of the 18,000 children in the UK who suffer from drug-resistant epilepsy.

Story

I am an #EpilepsyWarriorMum and my daughter suffers with drug resistant epilepsy.

This means she has seizures randomly despite trying a large number of epilepsy drugs and brain surgery (heaven knows what life would be like if she hadn’t - pre surgery she was having multiple seizures daily).

Hope is now 19, and has been supported by The Daisy Garland in a number of ways, through support whilst on the Keto Diet for Epilepsy, their Green Shoots Program & most importantly via their nighttime monitor program. The Daisy Garland has supported the whole family too, with their FB Keto Cafe & me with an opportunity to attend a Mindfulness retreat, gaining tools that help me every day.

Let me tell you more about a Hope’s nighttime monitor! She has had multiple activations every night for a long time, which sometimes we were a bit blasé about as they didn’t seem to all be seizures & only dealt with the obvious ones. Since a medication change last year, her monitor activations have reduced dramatically - to only once or twice a week (with occasional blips where we have a few nights in a row of several activations). So we now believe that all those activations were actually small seizures, or the start of one & the monitor somehow kicks her out of it.

I usually get up to every activation (although Geoff does too when I’m at work), I often tell people I go to work for a rest! I find myself on high alert due to activations & turn into a bit of a zombie, so work does actually allow me a break from that.

So I would love to give back to The Daisy Garland, but am rubbish at fundraising. I’m also overweight and out of walking practice, so I really am going from 0km - 50km in 8 weeks… Get your backside in gear Jo! So with the amazing support of Maxine & Leon who have similar reasons for supporting this awesome charity, I hope you will find it in you to dig deep & support me on this endeavour.

I’m a little bit scared! Wish me luck! x Jo x
