Story
This year I’m taking on the Brighton Marathon in support of Dementia UK.
My very first job was working in a dementia care home in Bucks. It was a challenging role, but one that opened my eyes to the devastating effects dementia and Alzheimer’s have - not only on those living with the condition, but on their families too. I have endless respect for the nurses, cleaners, and care staff who work tirelessly to support residents, treat them with dignity, and make each day a little easier.
Dementia has also affected my family personally. My wonderful great-grandmother Violet, whose flower is now tattooed on my arm, bravely battled dementia towards the end of her life. Seeing her go through that journey had a lasting impact on me and my family. I will also be running on behalf of a beloved family friend Mel, whose mum battled with the same condition very recently.
Dementia is a heartbreaking condition, but donations can help make a real difference. Funds raised will help Dementia UK place more specialist nurses with families who desperately need support, often when other help has come to an end. Donations also support vital research, campaigning for better dementia care, and providing a lifeline to families affected.
It’s my first EVER marathon so wish me luck - and see you at the finish line!
Thank you so much for any support you can give <3
