Jess' Sustainability Marathon!

LIV Sustainability Marathon · 31 August 2024
Since January this year I have lived at LIV Durban, a home for vulnerable and orphaned children.
Life here is busy and beautiful and hard to synthesise, but it is also being hampered by electricity and water outages. In 2023, there were 66 days of outages lasting over 8 hours and extended periods without water.
It affects our:
Finances - Solar power and water provision would save the village 3.4 million rand annually.
Time - without power or water the village grinds to a halt.
Security - no electricity means no electric fence.
Installing solar on the village, and getting our borehole up would solve these issues.
But we need a ‘village’ to make that happen.
Over August we are looking to raise £300,000. The deadline is approaching… which is why on the 30th August I will be running a marathon of many loops of the village to raise funds. Anything you give goes towards ensuring sustainable care for children here, now and in the future.
It’s a bold funding goal, but also a bold vision.
