Story
On 1st August 2019 I lost my mum, Lyn, she was only 68.
She had gone into hospital for a minor op and never made it home. I was in Florence for the weekend when I got ‘that call’ from my dad. She’d haemorrhaged, was given blood thickeners and her arteries couldn’t take it and it sent her into a full cardiac arrest.
If I didn’t see my mum daily, I would at least speak to her. The void is huge.
She had grand mal epilepsy and was on strong medication, she was overweight, had rheumatoid arthritis and to be honest wasn’t in the best health but never did we know how blocked her arteries were until it was too late.
Although, I was fairly fit and healthy, it definitely gives you the biggest wake up call and I’m now the fittest I’ve ever been.
I’m more of a short and sweet kinda exerciser. I like HIIT, my Peloton bike (the 3rd person in my marriage) and 5k runs…..I’m not a distance runner: I’ve completed only a few half marathons and my PB is 1:59:58 ;-) but that was a decade ago!
I’m running Cardiff Half on October 6th in memory of my mum who was so suddenly taken from us because of Heart Disease. I want to celebrate her life when I embark on the 13miles, I know she will be with me and Im hoping for a new PB because she will be pushing me hard in spirit. Im really looking forward to seeing my sons Reuben & Rowan and husband Andrew on the finishing line hopefully with a cream tea in hand because that’s most definitely the way to my heart!
Thank you so much for your support!
