Story

This year three of us (Tim, Liz and our son Luke) are running in aid of Romsey Mill, the charity Liz works for. I don't think we will ever be able to get Niamh to join us, as having taken part in the Shelford 5K, she decided that fun runs should be renamed "miserable walks"! Tim will be running as an ice cream again as he loves the extra attention so please get your terrible ice cream puns ready and thank you for supporting the work of Romsey Mill (more details below).

Romsey Mill works with over 3,000 children, young people and families in Cambridge South Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. The young people we work with have amazing talents and strengths, but they also struggle with mental health issues such as anxiety, depression and low self-esteem. They often lack family support, have disengaged from school and may have no one to turn to when things get difficult. Romsey Mill's youth workers aim to create spaces in which young people feel welcome, accepted, trusted, respected and safe. As a result, young people feel confident enough to try new things, make new friends, and express their views and opinions. Importantly, the relationships forged with the youth workers also mean that young people have trusted adults to talk to when they are facing challenges.

Our work includes detached youth work (meeting young people where they are on the streets, in parks and skate parks) open access youth groups, trips, sports, music, art, film and cookery alongside one to one support and targeted groups for young people needing extra support. It also includes specialist programmes for autistic young people and young parents. Romsey Mill's pre-school aims to apply our values of inclusion and belonging to looking after the youngest children and giving them the best start in life.

We really value your interest in Romsey Mill's work. For further information, please visit our website at www.romseymill.org or reach out to us at development@romseymill.org with any questions. Thank you!
