Story
At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives.
We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future.
Back in 2019, I sadly lost my beloved Dad to dementia after a 10 year battle with the disease. Many people are mistaken that dementia is just about loss of memory, but it also leads to mobility issues, not being able to make a decision for yourself, becoming dependent on others, and finally losing the ability to eat or drink.
I have also lost 2 wonderful Aunts, May and Marion. In fact Auntie Marion sadly passed away only very recently on the 26th May. Her husband, Uncle Ronnie also has dementia and is currently in a care home after a stay in hospital.
My lovely Mother in Law, Patricia, was diagnosed with dementia at the end of Covid having spent 9 months in various hospitals, under going test after test to try and find out what her condition was. We were also devastated to learn she would never go back to her beloved home in the country, and has been in a nursing home for the last 3 years.
Myself, husband, Brother, cousins and our families know hard it is to watch the people you love the most, struggle with this awful disease.
One day we will beat this, and I hope you will join me in raising not only money but awareness..............on the 7th June, I will be walking for everyone I have lost and everyone who is still fighting this condition.
You will all be with me in my heart, every step of the way.
