Walking 150km in February

IA is a UK registered charity whose primary aim is to help people who have to undergo surgery for an ileostomy or an ileo-anal pouch. IA offers specialist support and guidance through its unique visiting service, an extensive range of literature, a telephone helpline and social media.

Story

In February 2025, I will be walking 150km to raise funds for the North Midlands and Shropshire Ileostomy and Internal Pouch Association (IA). I will be doing this through the month walking about 5.5km a day.

This charity holds a special place in my heart because of the incredible support they have provided to my mum for the past 14 years. My mum lives with an ileostomy and multiple hernias around her stoma, which have severely impacted her quality of life. She is currently awaiting surgery, and throughout this challenging journey, the Association has been a vital source of guidance, care, and community. Their work has made a real difference in her life, and I want to ensure that others can also access this crucial support when they need it most.

By fundraising, I hope to help more ostomates receive the resources and assistance they need, as well as to raise awareness about the challenges they face. With better support and education, fewer people will have to endure the kind of complications my mum is facing.

This walk is my way of giving back to a charity that has done so much for my family and ensuring that their life-changing work can continue to reach more people. Your support can make a real difference—together, we can help improve the lives of ostomates in our community.
