LJMU Paramedic Society 24 Hour CPR Marathon fundraiser for North West Air Ambulance

LJMU Paramedic Society is raising money for North West Air Ambulance

24 Hour CPR Marathon · 24 October 2025

The charity's three helicopters and four rapid response vehicles operate 365 days a year, with doctors and paramedics on board providing enhanced prehospital care to people across the entire North West region.

Story

The Paramedic Society at LJMU are thrilled to bring back our award winning 24 hour CPR Marathon in support of the North West Air Ambulance Charity.

Last year, thanks to your support, we raised over £3,000.

This year, we’re hoping to do the same again!

What are we doing?

Our CPR Marathon is all about raising awareness of lifesaving skills while fundraising for an important cause.

Teams of six will take part, with each person performing two minutes of CPR before rotating. Together, they’ll continue for an hour long slot, and this cycle carries on non-stop for 24 hours!

This event will be taking place in the LJMU Student Life Building from 6pm on Friday the 24th of October until 6pm Saturday the 25th of October.

But it’s more than just a marathon- throughout the event we’ll also be hosting CPD (continuing professional development) sessions, welcoming specialist emergency teams, and offering CPR training to anyone who wants to learn.

Whether you’re from a medical background or not, this is your chance to get hands on, supported by student paramedics.

Who are we?

We are student paramedics at Liverpool John Moores University, proudly representing the Paramedic Society. Driven by our passion for emergency care and commitment to giving back, we organise this marathon to raise awareness and support the vital work of the North West Air Ambulance.

Why donate to the air ambulance charity ?

The North West Air Ambulance receives no government or NHS funding - every mission is funded by the public. Their Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS), staffed by doctors and critical care paramedics, covers Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Cheshire, Lancashire, and Cumbria.

Operating 365 days a year, the crew brings the hospital to the patient- providing advanced care at the scene and rapid transfer when it matters most.

What is CPR and why does it matter?

CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) is a lifesaving skill that keeps blood and oxygen flowing when someone’s heart has stopped. Early and effective CPR can significantly improve survival chances in cardiac arrest.

By showcasing it for 24 hours - we’re not just fundraising - we’re spreading awareness of a skill that saves lives.
