Shwmae and hello! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

I’m Llinos ‘Nos’, one of three embarking on this next adventure to raise as much money as I can for Dementia UK. We thought, maybe something challenging, something that’s going to need commitment and determination to push that little bit harder? A day trip to Snowdonia wasn’t enough for us, so… KILIMANJARO!

A little bit about me;

I’m 32, from Llanelli, South Wales. I live in London and work at the Moulin Rouge 💃 Yes…this does mostly mean that I’m used to sitting comfortably at a sewing machine for hours, therefore, this hike will be a tremendous shock to the system.

Myself and two friends will be packing our bags and flying to Tanzania in March 2025 to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. The trek will take a total of eight days. Our ascent will take six days where we will climb high and camp low in order to acclimatise to the altitude. After we summit, we will quickly descend in two days.

I have never hiked a mountain, especially one of this scale, however, I’ve been to the peak of many with the help of chairlifts and skis…both of which will definitely not help me this time. So, applying the same method I took as a child when learning how to swim, the best way to do this, is dive straight in.

Why Dementia UK? As a family, we have, in the past taken part and raised money for the charity in small community fundraisers. My grandfather, Alwynne Gunn battled with dementia for eight years and as a family, we were able to provide the care he needed. Forgetting how to do the everyday things that we take for granted, for example eating, communicating and walking are just some of the things this cruel and nasty disease affect. This is why I have decided to contribute in some way towards fighting dementia and raise funds in the hope that further research will one day lead to a cure. Dementia Uk provide incredible guidance and support for those living with dementia, including their families. With your donations, how ever big or small, we can make a huge difference.
