On September 7th 2024 I will be taking on the South Coast Ultra Challenge to raise money for Young Tongues in Loving memory of my sister-in-law

Karen Mckay Young.

I will be trekking 100km(62miles) from Polegate across the South Downs to finish in Arundel. Starting at 7am walking through the day and night until reaching the finish line…

I’m beginning to realise why Kazza always called me Loopy Lu…

Karen was diagnosed with tongue cancer in July 2022 at the age of just 39. Along with Karen’s family and friends seeing first hand the pain and suffering that comes with this horrid illness, somehow Kaz being Kaz was still able to shine with her wicked sense of humour and infectious smile.

Whilst in hospice care Karen contacted the founder of Young Tongues, Barbara, as she wanted to let them know how much the Young Tongue’s community had helped her with on-going care & support, especially after the cancer had progressed.

Karen often spoke about how much support she had gotten from the peer-to-peer communities, however little did we know she was also one of those helping others within the group to navigate through their journey, like the true legend she is.

The Young Tongue charity were there with special kind of support for Karen right up until she sadly lost her battle in June 2023. However support after continued for her sons and husband.

All money raised for Young Tongues will help them grow the charity, awareness campaigns, research to provide more understanding of tongue cancer in young patients, how to treat it & to continue building the peer-to-peer patient focused support groups.

Any amount you could donate to Young Tongues to continue with their incredible support & hard work would be gratefully appreciated.
