24-hour hymnathon · 28 February 2026

We are a church seeking to encourage, enable and equip individuals in their Christian faith and to serve our local area by sharing life, doing mission and building community. In John 10:10, Jesus says that he has 'come so that they can have life and have it to the full'. LMC wants to encourage everyone to share that life of faith to the full. LMC strives to be a church that supports mission and builds community. We feel this grows from our faith, exampled by Jesus in John 15:12: 'My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.' You will be made very welcome whether you join us for a Sunday service, in Wesley’s café or at one of our other events. We are proud to be part of the Methodist Church UK, standing on that heritage of preaching the gospel, social justice and a welcome for all. For 150 years, LMC has been a church striving to do God's will in the heart of Loughton. We are excited for the next 150 years

Story

Taste and See (and Hear) that the Lord is Good! … a Cheerful Giving Campaign!

Loughton Methodist Church is fundraising to support its community outreach and boost its worship experience!

As part of our campaign we are holding a hymnathon on 28 Feb to 1 March - singing for 24 hours, non-stop, including through the night! Thank you so much for your donations!

Our LMC community have been signing up to come along and sing for an hour (or more). Also featuring special 'takeover' hours such as 'primary school bangers' on the church forecourt, a programme from our choir, an LMC Kids hour and an hour with music from the LMC Band, together we will aim to ‘make a joyful noise unto the Lord’ (Psalm 100). We start at 10.30am on Saturday 28 February and will finish at the end of the first hymn of the 10.30 service on Sunday 1 March. We hope to lift our praises and have fun - and raise some money for LMC's outreach and worship in the process. All are welcome!

Thank you for your support!

The Cheerful Giving Team - Mary, Gemma, Rev. Sue and Steve

More about the Campaign:

Taste…

Did you know that the LMC community cafe serves 750 cups of coffee a month - not including Sundays?! The cafe provides discounted soups/hot drinks, a warm space and social connection for the Loughton community. But our coffee machine keeps breaking and engineer callouts are a hefty £400 a go, so to keep our vital community outreach going, the coffee machine needs replacing - at £7k.

and See…

We need new uplighters with energy-efficient LED bulbs! If our Worship Area is to continue to enhance our worship experience, we need to raise £6.6k.

and Hear…

Our mics are 25 years old - and the sound desk is not much younger! Replacements will cost £8.8k.

So, help support LMC’s worship and community outreach by lending YOUR support to the ‘Taste and See (and Hear) that the Lord is Good!’ campaign.

Fundraising and Social Events

We have a range of events (involving tasting, seeing and hearing) planned throughout 2026, including our 24-hour hymnathon, a spring cream tea with live music, and a harvest supper. Look out for further info!

Buy a Campaign Candle

We are also offering you the opportunity to buy a £20 campaign candle.

The battery-operated candles will be displayed in the Worship Area on a Sunday morning and will show your support for the campaign. You can ask for your name or the name of a loved one to be written on it - or remain anonymous if you prefer.

The number of lights will grow alongside support for the campaign and will shine brightly to show that the LMC community can indeed ‘Taste and See (and Hear) that the Lord is Good!’

Speak to the Church Office on 020 8502 3071 or to Steve Perry to purchase your candle.
