On the 2nd August, Langley Manor Cricket Club will host a full day of cricket in support of Planets Cancer Charity. Planets have been a huge supporter of local cricket legend Bryan Ponting since his diagnosis in 2022.

Bryan has been an active member of the cricketing community in the New Forest for over 30 years, starting his journey at Godchild before later joining Langley Manor when his son's Elliot and Jordan began playing.

Since that time, Bryan has run the colts section at Langley, been on various committees before following his youngest son to Romsey where he remains a member of the committee.

Bryan was diagnosed in 2022 with Pancreatic cancer following a routine blood test and endoscopies. Having found five tumours from initial scans, Bryan was given a firm diagnosis, one that he continues to defy today.

In Bryan's own words 'The biggest thing Planets have given me is the opportunity to meet experts but mainly people that are in the same boat as me and going through similar journeys. We all talk about the treatments, the side effects and the future. At some point, I will need to have the Whipples surgery and to be able to talk to survivors is a huge weight off my mind'

The day will consist of a women's match in the morning starting at 10am followed by Roy Bega touring club vs a Planets invitational XI organised by son Elliot which will consist of people close to Bryan's journey through cricket and life.

We will have a BBQ, a raffle with some outstanding prizes, a bar open from 9am and an auction at the completion of the day. Please come and join us from 9am onwards and spend the day raising money for this brilliant charity.
