Supporting Children with Eating Disorders
Logan has been battling an eating disorder (ARFID) since he was just 2 years old.
For years, it was dismissed as “fussy eating.” But as a parent, I knew it was something more. This isn’t just about being picky—it’s not a matter of “he’ll eat when he’s hungry.” For Logan, it’s often he’d rather starve than eat. That’s when we knew we were dealing with something far more serious.
Daily Life Is a Constant Struggle
Eating disorders aren’t just about food—they affect every part of a child’s life. For Logan, that means:
Missing meals for days
Extreme anxiety around food and mealtimes
Avoiding restaurants, birthday parties, or even sitting with us during meals
Regular hospital visits, monthly weight checks, and constant medical monitoring
This is our “normal.” And it’s heartbreaking to watch him miss out on the joys of childhood because of something completely out of his control.
But Logan Is Taking a Brave Step Forward 💪
Despite everything he faces daily, Logan is running in the Alton Towers Fun Run to raise money for First Steps Eating Disorder Service—the charity that’s been a lifeline for us.
First Steps ED supports children, their families, young people and adults affected by eating difficulties and disorders. They work across the UK offering care and support by providing coping strategies and recovery services to people of all ages, genders and backgrounds.
They provide specialist support, therapy, and hope to children and families like ours.
