Beyond Cranleigh 2023
Campaign by Restore Community (RCN 1165654)
In 2023 Beyond Ourselves will be delivering literacy training across the Copperbelt Province, supporting teachers as they tackle the problem of low literacy levels. We will also continue to support Kawama School professionally and financially.

Story

Since 2011 Cranleigh School has been partnering with Beyond Ourselves to offer quality education to orphans and vulnerable children in the Copperbelt region of Zambia. In particular Cranleigh has a long lasting and meaningful relationship with Kawama Community School in Kitwe. Over this time, the generous support from the Cranleigh community has provided the building and maintenance of six classrooms, a toilet block and kitchen, and given nearly a 1000 children access to a high standard primary education. The District Education Board cite Kawama Community School as an excellent example of practice for other Community Schools in the Copperbelt. Many of our students have had the opportunity to visit Kawama and the impact of those visits is significant.

In October I will be lucky enough to be able to visit Kawama School with 18 other students. During the time I am there I will help support learning in the classroom and assist with extra curricular activities and sport. I will also undertake a range of activities that will promote an understanding of Zambian culture and the role of aid in economic development.

This Easter I am hoping with fair weather and calm sea to swim in Antigua from Loose Canon in English Harbour to Catherines Cafe in Falmouth Harbour. This is a 2 miles swim in open water. Hopefully I won’t be eaten by the sharks and stung by jelly fish! Although apprehensive I am looking forward to the challenge. I hope the currents and the wind is with me.

Beyond Ourselves is a great cause to support. Any money is greatly appreciated and will donated straight towards the Zambia team. This money will have a life changing difference to the children of Kawama. Thank you so much for your support.
