London Marathon 2026

John Sowden is raising money for The Emily Ffion Trust
In memory of Emily Sowden

London Marathon 2026 · 26 April 2026 ·

The Emily Ffion Trust exists for general charitable purposes but we intend to support medical research and fund equipment to treat Bronchiolitis. We intend to help families cope with bereavement and childhood loss. We don't want the sad loss of our beautiful Emily to be in vain. Your donation helps.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I've set this page up to raise funds for the Emily Ffion Trust by running my 7th London Marathon at the end of April.

The trust was set up shortly after my wife Sara and I lost our beautiful daughter Emily very suddenly in November 2013 aged just 21 months old. On the eve of my participation in the 2014 London Marathon, we discovered that Emily passed away as a result of acute viral bronchiolitis. This is an illness that in minor cases is treatable with Calpol, in more severe cases A&E administered oxygen but in Emily's case the absolute worse case scenario.

As a trust, we have supported local North West based health care centres and helped them to purchase equipment that saves the lives of children that our amazing NHS staff administer. Hearing stories directly from parents who's children have recovered as a result of using the equipment that our amazing supporters have donated funds towards ensures Emily's legacy lives on. It's even more incredible that some of our close friends have benefited from this.

I said after running the 2013 London Marathon where Sara, my son Charlie & Emily were there to cheer me on, that i'd never do it again. It's tough! But here I am training for my 7th! All because I want to raise money for the Trust to enable us to continue what we started many years ago and to ensure that our beautiful Emily is never forgotten. She's there with me for every stride in training and on the day and will be forever.

Dig deep folks and thank you. XXXX
