Walking the London LOOP in one week · 5 April 2025

The Woodland Trust is the UK's leading woodland conservation charity who creates, protects and cares for woodland across the UK. We are working hard to create a UK rich in native woods and trees, for people and wildlife. But we can't do this alone. We can't achieve our vision without you.

Story

In April 2025, I will embark on an incredible challenge: walking the entire London Outer Orbital Walk, also known as the LOOP, which stretches for 150 miles over the course of one week – about 26 miles a day. As I walk through the beautiful countryside and green spaces surrounding London, I will be raising money for two important charities: the Woodland Trust and Thames21.

Why this matters

The green belt surrounding London is a vital resource for wildlife, biodiversity, and the well-being of those living in the city. It provides a much-needed escape from the urban hustle, offering residents access to nature, fresh air, and green spaces. These areas are home to countless species, some of which are in danger of disappearing. The green belt also plays a key role in protecting against flooding, providing carbon storage, and maintaining ecological balance.

However, this precious land is under threat. Government housing policies are putting increased pressure on these green spaces, and many parts of the countryside around London are at risk of being built on. This would mean the destruction of ecosystems, the loss of habitats for wildlife, and the disappearance of the very green spaces that give London its unique character.

As I walk the LOOP, I’ll be passing through woods, riversides, and parks that embody the beauty and serenity of this green belt. But I need your support to ensure that these spaces—and the wildlife that depends on them—remain protected for generations to come.

Supporting two incredible charities

By sponsoring my walk, you’ll be supporting two organisations that are working tirelessly to protect the environment and make a lasting difference.

1. The Woodland Trust – This charity is the leading organization dedicated to protecting and restoring the UK’s woodlands. They focus on preserving ancient woodlands, planting new trees, and creating green corridors that help connect and protect wildlife. Your donation will help fund their essential work in safeguarding the UK’s woodlands and their ecosystems.

2. Thames21 – Thames21 is an environmental charity dedicated to protecting and improving the River Thames and its tributaries. They work with local communities to reduce pollution, restore natural habitats, and promote sustainable practices. Your donation will help Thames21 carry out vital projects aimed at preserving the health of the Thames, ensuring that future generations can continue to enjoy this iconic river.

How you can help

I need your support to make this walk count! Whether you donate a little or a lot, every penny you give will directly contribute to the vital work of the Woodland Trust and Thames21. If you are unable to donate, you can still help by sharing this appeal with friends and family to spread the word about the importance of protecting our green spaces.
