Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page for the London Marathon 2024. Not long after my son Oliver passed away in July 2012 I took up running, initially to complete the first 'Rat Race' obstacle course at Burghley which was 20 miles and ober 200 obstacles and so I could raise money for Charity.

Since then I have entered the London Marathon ballot and never been successful. I had wanted to raise money for Histio UK as they fund the main research into HLH (Haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis) which ultimately took Oliver's life. But after discussing the work Action Medical Research were doing with XLP (X-linked lymphoproliferative syndrome) which is the underlying genetic condition which then leads to HLH I decided to apply through them as the research was so related.

So here I am taking on my first London marathon in 2024. It really is emotional as it means so much, both because it is the iconic London marathon which I have wanted to do for the last 10 years but also for the sad reason that I am doing it which is in memory of Oliver.

We have always said that no parent should ever have to go through the pain of losing a child and is the reason we raised over £25,000 in 2013 to fund and support research to finding a cure. I'm sure I will go through plenty of pain during training and on the day but nothing compared to the pain I suffered losing Oliver and any other families who go through the same heart ache.

Even writing this has made me cry as the underlying pain never goes away and the whole journey will be emotional I'm sure. But if it helps raise money to ultimately prevent other parents going through the same pain we have it will be worth it. So if you can spare any money to make a donation it really will make a massive difference to me and the charity and apprecriate every penny given. Please also share this page on your socials as it is a quick way to share and hopefully raise more money from charity through a wider network - THANK YOU
