Story
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) helped me get over the line in my cancer recovery. It’s a wonderful primary healthcare intervention and reaches parts the NHS cannot reach.
Please help me raise funds for the Oxfordshire Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre (OMSTC) so more people can access hyperbaric oxygen and the other services offered.
Hyperbaric Oxygen started out as a life-saving intervention in scuba diving accidents from the 1930s. Recently, its mechanism in jump starting the body’s own repair systems has become better understood through the work of 2019 Nobel Laureate Professor Peter Ratcliffe (Oxford University) in identifying cellular response to hypoxia and Israeli physician Dr Shai Efrati’s scientific studies in stroke, brain injury, PTSD and radiation burns.
My cancer journey was scary. A hidden aggressive breast cancer. Treatment in Germany, Malaysia and the UK. I experienced a lot and tried many interventions on the way. Headliners were surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and immunotherapy which left me cancer-free but depleted, full of brain fog and scar tissue.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) helped my body and mind recover and now that I am training for the London marathon, it’s also helping my muscles recover faster after my long runs.
You may have heard of top flight athletes and football clubs using hyperbaric chambers for optimum performance.
At the OMSTC, therapies are a fraction of the commercial cost as trained volunteers run the sessions for the six-person chamber that runs at 2 atmospheres (an equivalent of 33 feet under the water in older diving terms)
