Story
Not quite sure how this happened and, whilst I do love a challenge, this is on a whole new level.
In August I am embarking on a cross channel swim as part of a relay team supporting the amazing charity Aspire.
So... about the challenge... depending on the tides (it's not a straight line!), there will be 6 of us taking it in turns to swim 1 hour each, so we will probably all swim about 3 times to complete approximately 22 miles. Half of the swim is in the dark through the night (waterproof glow stick provided!). Water temp approx 15 degrees. No wetsuit. And no covering yourself in lard!
And... about the channel... apparently there are 21 known species of sharks in the English channel, including porbeagles, blue sharks, thresher sharks, shortfin makos and oceanic whitetips, and lots and lots and lots of jellyfish. As the busiest shipping lane in the world, we will share it with over 600 ships plus ferries, hovercraft and small boats.
We are reassured that we'll take all of that in our stride; the greatest challenge apparently being 24 hours of sea sickness, and the greatest relief apparently being getting back into the water to alleviate the vomiting!
So.. you know what comes next… anything that you can donate for this amazing charity would be so very much appreciated (and for those in the UK please do add gift aid to add 25%)... Thank you for your generosity, your kind comments and… well... and your other comments!
