In memory of Nick Smith

Loros Esprit Soap Box Derby

Story

We’re racing for Nick 💛

In 2025, we lost our dear friend Nick. He was one of those people who left a mark on everyone he met – full of life, warmth, humour, and always up for a laugh. His absence is still felt every day.

To honour Nick’s memory, we’re proudly taking on the Ashby Soap Box Derby, a major event in its own right and the first public outing for our very own homemade racer:

The LOROS Esprit 🏁

But Ashby isn’t the finish line.

It’s the launchpad.

Ashby will be where we put the car — and ourselves — to the test, before heading to the big one:

The Red Bull Soapbox Race, London – 20th June.

This slightly ridiculous, slightly ambitious, gravity-powered machine is being built with love, teamwork, and more engineering know-how than Trump’s attempts at reaching the moon – all in aid of LOROS Hospice, who provided incredible care, compassion, and support during an unimaginably difficult time.

LOROS doesn’t just support patients – they support families, friends, and loved ones when they need it most. We want to give something back, and if throwing ourselves down a hill in a soap box helps raise money and awareness — first in Ashby, then on the streets of London — then Nick would absolutely approve.

Every donation, big or small, helps LOROS continue their vital work and means the world to us.

Thank you for supporting us, for supporting LOROS, and for helping us remember Nick in a way that’s full of life, laughter, and a bit of chaos — just like him.

💛🏎️

LOROS is a charity whose aim is to enhance the quality of life of adult patients with cancer, progressive neurological conditions and end-stage organ failure for whom curative treatment is no longer possible. Patients are treated at the Hospice and in the community based upon clinical need, regardless of background and the ability to pay.
