I was first aware of STAND in 2022, through my work and was in awe of the members of the group. It is a peer support group for people living with early onset or early stages of Dementia. Although I see them as more than that, as they strive to share information about the condition, via schools, local events and has given many of the group purpose and meaning in their life after having to give up their work . At times this was due to society not adapting for the person and their skills but letting the condition blur who the person is.

Working as an occupational therapist we are educated to look at what is important/meaningful to the person and not the condition enabling them to be who they are and improve their quality of life.

STAND is a local charity based in Fife and embodies everything I believe in.

The challenge I am attempting in October will be the most physical and mentally running challenge I have ever done. I’m not sure what will happen on the day, but I’m giving my best in training and hoping any money I raise will support STAND to continue to do the amazing work they do.
