Lorraine's fundraiser for St Andrew's Dementia Hub

Lorraine Nisbet is raising money for St Andrew's Dementia Hub

Glasgow Kiltwalk 2026 · 25 April 2026 to 26 April 2026 · Start fundraising for this event

The Hub is open to • anyone living with dementia. • anyone living with dementia residing in a care home setting. • unpaid carers, family members & friend of people living with dementia those whose family member is residing in a care home or in long term hospital care.

Story

As most people know Dad has been suffering with dementia since a small stroke in 2015. The dementia hub in Carluke has been a fantastic support for him and mum. They offer activities, support groups, crafts and day trips for both people living with dementia and their carers. They also offer an art group that dad loves and now our walls are covered in pics and they have made many friends. Without it dad and mum’s world would have shrunk and the hub really fills the gap between home and being in full time care for people living with the disease.

The Hub provides support to people living with dementia (including young onset dementia) and their carers three days a week throughout the year, as well as providing regular trips. A Virtual Reality training programme has been offered to many professionals and carers since 2023 and Heart to Heart (a bereavement support group) has run since 2025.

Four part time staff and twenty-two volunteers, many of whom have lived experience of dementia, form the basis of our team which supports people throughout the year.

So for kilt walk this year I would love to raise some money for the hub to help them continue their vital work in the community.
