A Youth Worker can make a huge difference to a young person with CHD. They can attend outpatient appointments with the young person for reassurance, to explain jargon or help through the appointment.

They can meet the young person outside hospital to chat about school, college, planning for university, benefits, jobs, apprenticeships or anything else they would rather discuss outside of the hospital environment.

A Youth Worker can also help with finding useful resources for information for topics like mental health, money, body image, and sexual health.

Youth at Heart funded and employed youth workers focused on the Southwest of England and South Wales. To help fulfil their ambition to roll out the initiative nationally, Youth at Heart merged with Somerville Heart Foundation.

The charity is reliant on fundraisers to be able to continue and expand this incredible service for young people born with a heart condition.
