Soph, Lozza, Lou and Caroline, aka The Jail Birds, are riding The Great Escape 2025!

On Friday 09th May 2025 we will be cycling 120km whilst stimulating muscles and minds; learning about the different aspects of the criminal justice system and the reason why Onwards & Upwards exist as a charity.

Setting off from Richmond, visiting Bronzefield Women’s prison and Feltham YOI while taking in the beautiful Surrey countryside on route to Herne Hill Velodrome in South East London.

The main driver for reoffending, with 52% of those leaving prison being back inside in 6 months, is unemployment. Onwards & Upwards starts small, beautiful and loud sustainable social ventures which train, mentor and employ those leaving prison or with criminal records.

The economic cost to society to reoffending is £18.5 billion a year. There is of course an even greater social cost!
