Women's 10K Glasgow 2025 · 15 June 2025 · Start fundraising for this event

The Fragile X Society is the only charity dedicated to individuals and families living with Fragile X syndrome - the most common cause of inherited learning disability. We are continually working to improve the quality of life for all people impacted by Fragile X.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my just giving page.

In 2023 Luciano was diagnosed with Fragile X Syndrome. FXS is a genetic condition, affecting around 1 in 4000 males and 1 in 6000 females. It can cause a wide range of difficulties with learning, as well as social, language, attentional, emotional, and behavioural problems. FXS is the most common inherited cause of learning disability and ASD.

Strengths associated with Fragile X include good imitation skills, visual learning and long-term memories. Those living with Fragile X are also often described as having likeable personalities, being sensitive to others’ emotions and as having a good sense of humour - characteristics that Luciano has in abundance!

As we navigate this unexpected path as a family, we would also like to help raise awareness of the condition, in the hope that more funding and research will go into supporting families to provide a brighter future for all affected.

I will be running my first 10km in June and any extra pennies you have to spare to help push me over the finish line would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
