Story
This April, I'm taking on the London Marathon for Guy's Cancer Centre (I promise this isn’t an April fools…)
As some of you will know, earlier last year my absolute superwoman of a mum was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer. From day one, we have been incredibly lucky with her ongoing treatment at Guy's Hospital where the staff are nothing short of extraordinary. Mum quickly underwent major surgery, and her team of surgeons, nurses and physios were all heroes - their skill, dedication and kindness never failed to put a smile on all of our faces, even on the darkest days.
A cancer centre is a pretty bleak place to be. But once you were inside the hospital and past the horrible signs, the team made it a place where we could laugh and pass many hours and weeks together. They turned what is the most scary and unbearable time into something we could face as a family, and we owe that all to the amazing staff at Guy's. Their expertise, compassion and cutting-edge treatment gives so many families the kindness and hope when they need it most.
Mum's treatment is ongoing but we feel incredibly lucky that we have the team at Guy's on our side.
Anyone who knows me will be absolutely shocked to see that I am attempting to run a marathon, seeing as I've never completed a 5k (wish me luck…) but I thought if there's ever a time to run a marathon, it's now, and there's no better person to run for than our queen Fifi.
Why Guy's Cancer Centre?
Guy's treats patients with the rarest and most complex cancers, providing specialist care that simply isn't available elsewhere. They're pioneering new treatments and clinical trials that are transforming outcomes for patients like Mum. This life-saving work relies on charitable support.
Every pound raised helps fund groundbreaking research, state-of-the-art equipment, and the specialist staff who go above and beyond every single day.
