50 Years of Transplant Success: University Hospital of Leicester’s Golden Milestone

The Welsh 3000s take 2 · 7 June 2025
It’s time to complete the Welsh 3000s challenge , last year we did 2 of the 3 sections of The Welsh 3000s and the weather beat us on the last section so we are going back to try again and to finish this beast. This time a team of 16 of Darrens friends, colleagues from Loughborough college and staff from the transplant team on Ward 37 at Glenfield hospital will take on the challenge.
This is to celebrate 3000 kidney transplants and 50 Years of Transplant Success with the University Hospital of Leicester's Golden Milestone Promoting organ donation and transplantation in Leicester and Leicestershire linking with its 50 Years success.
We have set up this just giving page to do our bit for giving back ,this unit and team carried out Darren Creeds transplant in July 2023 so he’s talked us into walking the Welsh 3000s AGAIN to give back and to assist with their own fundraising from local organisations, businesses, and individuals.
March 2025 is a special time—it marks 50 years since the first kidney transplant was performed at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust so the perfect time to launch this page. This milestone is a true demonstration of the incredible dedication of the healthcare professionals who have spent decades improving the lives of people with kidney failure.
The Sir Professor Bell Kidney Unit has been at the heart of this work, performing over 3,000 transplants for patients in Leicester and the surrounding areas.
As we celebrate this remarkable achievement, I’m reaching out for your support. Your donations will directly contribute to the ongoing efforts of this remarkable team, ensuring that they can continue to provide life-saving care for those in need. Please donate to the teams page and help make a difference in the lives of transplant patients and their families.
