Story
I am running the Blickling half marathon in October for Norfolk and Waveney mind.
I’m running in remembrance of my much adored grandad Ivan.
He was more than my grandad, he taught me to ride a bike, he sat with me to read, he showed me everything he knew about the countryside and we walked miles with his dogs.
He always instilled in me that I could do anything I set my mind to.
So on Father’s Day I completed my first 10k charity race, I knew he was with me all the way.
A short insight into why this charity important to me.
I lost my grandad on the 07.09.22 he had fought a courageous battle with his mental and physical health and when he could fight no more, he sadly took himself away.
A day that changed our family forever.
During the time after we lost him, Norfolk and Waveney Mind were a fantastic help to our family. My Nanny Julie had a wonderful support worker Paula, who sat with her chatted and helped through the coming months leading up to the inquest, where she also attended and supported my nanny throughout.
My mum Gemma also had a support worker Paul who again was fantastic through the whole time she was able to have him.
Unfortunately the grief was all to much to bare for my mum and she was able to go and stay for 5 days at Hollytree house, a safe home for those needing respite and support with their mental health.
Their she as able to talk, feel safe and looked after with activities and support workers on hand 24/7. Without this service the outcome could have been so different. But they were able to support my mum and us to see a brighter road ahead.
For this reason I want to give back to them so they can continue to provide this service to others.
