Story
In June, I’m taking on a huge personal challenge I'm calling L2R: cycling over 350 miles across the UK, unsupported, from Lytham St Anne’s, Lancashire to Risca, South Wales, while also completing two parkruns along the way.
I’m doing this to raise money for Diabetes UK. My nephew, Charlie, lives with type 1 diabetes. He has needed ongoing GP and hospital care and missed significant time at school during periods of illness. Watching him deal with the daily realities of this condition has shown me just how vital research, support services, and awareness really are — not just for those living with diabetes, but for their families too.
Every mile I ride or run is for Charlie, for my friend & run leader Declan, my work colleague Glyn, and for the millions of others affected by diabetes across the UK.
If all goes to plan, I'll be cycling the long way round, via the Peak District, Nottingham, Birmingham & Warwickshire, then heading down to The Cotswolds before cycling across the Severn Bridge into Wales. I'll cycle up to 60 miles every day for 8 days; on day 1 I will also run Lytham Hall parkrun and on my final day I will also run the Severn Bridge parkrun as I cross from England into Wales.
All money raised will go directly to Diabetes UK, helping to fund life changing research, provide essential support, and work towards a future where diabetes can do no harm.
If you’re able to donate — big or small — it would mean the world to me and help keep me pedalling or running when the miles get tough.
Thank you so much for your support 💙
P.S. Have a look at the gallery pictures to see a map of the route. It's a long way without using a car or train!
