Lloyd's Abseil 2025 · 9 July 2025 to 10 July 2025 ·

Action for BPAN was created by two mothers who's daughters have been diagnosed with this rare Neuro-degenerative condition. As the UK's first charity for BPAN we want to fund the vital research for a cure or treatment and give a voice to this rare community of wonderful children and parents.

Story

On 9th July 2025, I’ll be stepping off the edge of the iconic Lloyd’s building in London – yes, abseiling down it! – to raise funds for Action for BPAN, a cause that’s incredibly close to my heart.

In January 2023, our lovely daughter Scarlett was diagnosed with Beta-propeller Protein-Associated Neurodegeneration (BPAN) – a rare, progressive, and life-limiting neurological condition. Caused by a mutation in the WDR45 gene, BPAN can lead to seizures, developmental delays, and, over time, symptoms of Parkinson’s and dementia. There is currently no cure.

Scarlett is now four. She’s happy, cheeky, and full of life. While she’s currently on the milder end of the spectrum, we don’t know what the future holds. What we do know is that we’ll never stop doing everything we can for her.

That’s why I’m taking on this challenge – to raise awareness and much-needed funds for research at Great Ormond Street Hospital, where promising gene therapy work is already underway thanks to the incredible efforts of families like ours. Every pound raised helps bring us closer to a future with more answers – and more hope – for children like Scarlett.

This abseil isn’t just a personal challenge. It’s something I’m doing for Scarlett, and for every child living with BPAN.
