Story

Walking together for Breast Cancer Now 💗

Breast cancer has shaped our family for over a decade. In 2013 my mum and I both lost our breasts to it. In 2025, it came back.

This year, three generations of the Carnegie family, along with friends, will be taking part in the Pink Ribbon Walk in aid of Breast Cancer Now.

This walk is especially meaningful to us. My mum Ann and I were both diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013 and underwent mastectomies. More recently, I was diagnosed again in January 2025 with stage 2 invasive breast cancer. I had another mastectomy, followed by radiotherapy, and I am now on ongoing drug therapy.

When I was going through treatment last year, life didn’t stop around us. My eldest daughters were in the middle of their GCSEs and A-level exams, and our family was trying to keep everything going as normally as possible while navigating the fear and uncertainty that comes with cancer.

I desperately wanted to take part in the Pink Ribbon Walk last year, but I was in the middle of treatment and wasn’t able to join. This year feels very special, because I will finally be there, walking alongside my husband Jonny, our daughters Sorrel and Ottilie, my sisters Nicola and Rebecca, my nieces Isla and Lucy, my mum Ann, and our amazing friend Susie. My eldest daughter is currently travelling in Australia, but she will still be taking part in the Pink Ribbon Walk on 18th April, walking in spirit (and in steps) from the other side of the world.

As well as the Pink Ribbon Walk, I’m also taking on an extra personal challenge. On May 2nd I’ll be completing my first ever Sprint Triathlon. After everything I’ve been through, this feels like a powerful milestone and a celebration of recovery, strength, and moving forward.

We are walking (and racing!) to celebrate resilience, to honour everyone who has gone through and is going through breast cancer, and to support the incredible work Breast Cancer Now does in research, treatment, and care for families affected by breast cancer.

If you are able to donate, we would be incredibly grateful. Every contribution helps fund vital research and support, and brings hope to families facing breast cancer right now. Thank you so much for supporting us.
