Story
Further to my previous crazy personal swimming challenges (Coniston in 2021 and Ullswater in 2024), this year I am attempting to swim the full length of Lake Windermere. Eleven miles all in one go - what could possibly go wrong?!
I have decided to fundraise for The Strutts Community Centre in Belper (formerly Herbert Strutt School). This beautiful listed building is now a community centre which is run entirely by volunteers (Guardians of Strutts), who work very hard to preserve and restore the building, as well as working to improve the facilities they offer. A registered charity, it is used by many different groups in the community, including youth clubs, Scout groups, exercise groups, drama clubs, choirs, home education groups and music clubs. My daughter has benefitted hugely from taking part in activities and clubs held at Strutts. Therefore I'd like to play my part in helping to secure the centre for future generations to enjoy and benefit from.
Windermere is a huge undertaking - it will be by far the furthest I have ever swam (and will definitely be the furthest I will ever swim!). The swim takes place on Saturday 6th September, starting at around 8am. I anticipate it will take me at least 8 hours, probably longer depending on the weather conditions. Although there will be boats out on the lake providing water and jelly babies, I will be carrying the rest of the food I will need in my tow float.
Any sponsorship will be very gratefully received.
Thank you
