I’m raising funds for Befriend a Child, a local charity I work for that supports children, young people, and their families facing challenging life circumstances.

As well as my role as Family Support Coordinator at Befriend a Child, I’m also a mum of two adult sons with additional support needs. In October 2022, I had a heart attack and needed surgery to have a stent fitted. That started a year-long recovery process, and I was fortunate to have the support of the Cardio Rehab team at ARI, who helped me through it.

As part of my recovery, I set myself some challenges to stay focused and motivated, while raising funds for important causes:

4-mile Wee Wander Kiltwalk (June 2023) – Supporting Befriend a Child

Half Marathon Virtual MoonWalk Scotland (September 2023) – Supporting Walk the Walk Worldwide

10k Twilight Walk (May 2024) – Supporting Cancer Research UK

18-mile Mighty Stride Kiltwalk (June 2024) – Supporting Befriend a Child

These challenges are a personal commitment to my own recovery and a way to contribute to causes that matter to me.

Next, I’m aiming to move 50 miles every month for a year to raise funds for Befriend a Child.

Within my role, I see first-hand how crucial our services are. Every day, I witness how much families depend on the support we offer, and it’s clear that without it, many would struggle further to cope with the challenges they face.
