Story
Dementia is a complex, heartbreaking condition that slowly takes away a person’s memories, independence, and, often, their sense of self. It’s a journey filled with challenges—emotional, physical, and financial.
I recently received the news that my dad has been diagnosed with dementia. While I am still coming to terms with what this means for his future, I know that this journey will require strength, love, and support from everyone around him.
My dad is a constant, he provides stability. He is kind, hardworking, and full of fun. He’s been there for me on life's rollercoaster, and now it’s my turn to be there for him. I will encourage him to enjoy every moment of his life and when the time comes, I will work with my family to ensure he is in receipt of the best care and support.
As I navigate this new reality, I have learned that dementia doesn’t just affect the person diagnosed, so I decided to do something positive for Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity. I have set up this JustGiving page to help cover the costs of researching treatments and providing essential services, in the hope this will improve quality of life for millions of sufferers and their families.
This October, I will be walking over 100 km with Rose, the Rottweiler, to help ensure no family faces it alone. I am incredibly grateful for any support—whether it’s a donation, sharing this page, or even just offering words of encouragement.
Thank you for helping us fight for my dad, and for every family facing this degenerative and indiscriminate cruel disease.
