Story
12 years ago, I had an idea to help both humans and animals at the same time...
Financial support for older adults to adopt a rescue pet.
It's a WIN/WIN - the person gets a friend and the animal gets a home!
'Give a Dog a Bone... and an animal a home' became a registered charity in November 2013. Since then, we have supported countless numbers of older adults and rescue animals to have a happier life - together.
HOWEVER, it occurred that this project was great... but only IF you were able to take an animal home.
Lots of older adults LOVE animals but, for whatever reason, can't (or don't want to) adopt one...
In January 2018, we opened our very first community space in Shawlands, Glasgow.
'Companionship in the Community' was a brand new project, allowing older adults to spend time, in a safe space, with what would soon become classed as our 'Companionship Dogs'.
We now have 3 community spaces (Glasgow, Troon and Alloa) and, last year, our overall footfall was 18,000.
We've long wanted to spread our reach to the East of Scotland but environmental factors (the pandemic); financial factors (each space costs between 40k to 50k per annum to run); and resource factors (we're a really small team!) have hindered our progress.
HOWEVER, we are sooooooo EXCITED to announce that we now have a BRAND NEW UNIT in the heart of Dunfermline City Centre!!!
We wouldn't have been able to secure this fantastic location without the help of our trusted landlords - S&D Properties Group. Thank you Caroline and team.
We get the keys next week(!) and there's a whole lot of work to do!! It's currently just a shell - it needs a compete overhaul and all of the 'stuff' that's needed to make it a comfortable, warm, environment for our visitors, staff, volunteers and, of course, dogs.
We would be so grateful if you could please consider donating to help us bring the Give a Dog a Bone magic to a brand new community.
It all helps!!
Thanks sooooooo much for coming on the journey with us and suppoting our unique charitable mission of tackling loneliness for older adults, via animal companionship and friendship.
