Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer. Just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this disease. We are a leading voice calling for support and action for research into what is called the last battleground against cancer.

Story

My name is Louise Stewart.

In August of 2016 I was diagnosed with bi-lateral breast cancer. It was a life changing event and I view my life as before cancer and after cancer. The truth is the impact of it never leaves you. But, I am blessed to be marking 10 years in remission this year. That’s worth celebrating!

I want to do something that will support others affected by cancer. My former BBC colleague Glenn Campbell was diagnosed with a brain tumour at the age of 47 in 2023.

Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under the age of 40, according to both the Brain Tumour Charity and Brain Tumour Research.

Glenn started Brain Power - a fundraising community to fight back against brain tumours.

Funds raised by the Brain Power team are donated to Brain Tumour Research to fund the work of their Scottish Brain Tumour Research centre.

So, next weekend I’ll be getting my walking boots on to climb The Cairnwell Munros. The climb includes three summits - The Cairnwell, Carn Aosda and Carn a Gheoidh. It’s a route of 13k and should take around 6 hours. I have tried this route before but had to turn back due to the weather. I’m determined to do it this time.

I am primarily fundraising for Brain Power but am an Ambassador for @CRUK so if you would like to donate to either I would be very grateful. Your support is hugely appreciated.

Thank you.
