Story
Hi everyone,
Running a half marathon isn’t my idea of fun… but neither is living in a country where we lose someone to suicide every 75 minutes. Suicide is the leading cause of death in men under the age of 50 and in all adults under 35 - but despite this, effective support is hard to find.
For the past seven years I’ve been regularly volunteering at The Listening Place, a charity that provides free, face-to-face, ongoing support to those who feel suicidal. Every fortnight I spend my Sunday afternoon providing listening support to suicidal people and see first hand how important the service is. I also help the charity by crunching the numbers to evaluate the service and the impact is clear - visitors feel less suicidal and more supported after three months of attending The Listening Place.
I’m hoping to raise £900 by running the Hackney Half on Sunday 17th May - this would fully fund the support of three of our visitors to receive support for as long as it takes to reduce their suicidal feelings.
If you can, please donate today and help ensure this support is there for you those who need it most. Thank you!
