Story
Hi, I’m Hayley, Lyra’s mum. I’ve set up a small UK crochet and crafting business as a way to stay grounded during Lyra’s appointments. As long as she’s content, I crochet while she naps or during moments when my full attention isn’t needed.
To celebrate her first birthday, I'm selling my crafts to raise money for Lister's parent accommodation. We spent many hours in the family room, worrying about her progress and used the parent overnight room to adjust from NICU life ready to transfer home. The team were so supportive through the difficult weeks and we want to make future NICU parents as comfortable as possible.
Her Story (Trigger warning):
Lyra was born via an emergency c-section at Lister hospital after reduced movements. She had severe anaemia and needed multiple blood transfusions. On day three, she faced a critical setback with a seizure and pulmonary haemorrhage. Though she recovered from multi-organ failure, she was left with moderate to severe brain damage.
Her basal ganglia is affected and she’ll likely be diagnosed with cerebral palsy as she grows. We’re working closely with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dieticians, audiologists (she’s profoundly deaf) and ophthalmologists to give her the best start possible.
Today, she is a beautiful/smiley baby and is super loved by her whole family. Thanks for donating!
