Humane Society of Sarasota County (HSSC) is a no-kill shelter in Sarasota, Florida which was hit by back-to-back hurricanes. They rely solely on contributions from individuals, foundations, and corporations. HSSC receives no federal funding, nor are they funded by any national humane organization.
HSSC is responding to the needs of animal welfare organizations in Florida, transferring animals into their shelter who would have been in the storm's path in outdoor holding cages and providing space to help organizations best assist their communities. After the storm, many animals are displaced, so HSSC provides relief to area shelters by transporting adoptable animals so shelters have the space to hold stray animals who came in after the storm.
Many in their community lost everything - including pet supplies. HSSC provides a valuable resource to their community through their pet pantry program. Food, bowls, collars, leashes and litter are available to assist their community's pet parents.
