Story
Established in 2006 with funding from the National Lottery, Leeds Juniors Rowing Club built its rowing centre on the River Aire. Since then, Leeds Rowing Club has grown rapidly from a small group of around half a dozen people to a membership of up to 200, with a purpose-built second site on the Aire and Calder Canal.
The club supports a wide range of athletes, from club and social rowers to elite competitors who have represented Leeds at Henley Royal Regatta, Henley Women’s Regatta, junior, under-23, European and World Championships, as well as the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Over the past few years, our Junior Academy has grown significantly in both size and performance. We are committed to making rowing accessible to everyone, including offering support to families experiencing financial hardship so that young athletes are not prevented from taking part because of the cost.
About the Event:
On 7th November, we’ll be taking over The Department at Leeds Dock from 8am–8pm, with members of our Junior Academy taking on the challenge of rowing continuously for 12 hours.
Throughout the day, you’ll be able to meet members of the Leeds Rowing Club community who have represented their country internationally, while a corporate rowing event will take place later in the day. Food and drinks will also be available throughout the event, making it a great opportunity to come down, get involved and support the Academy.
Funds raised through the event will go directly towards new equipment and supporting the Junior Academy, helping us continue to provide young athletes from across the region, including those from hard-to-reach communities, with the opportunity to train, compete and develop at a high level.
