Story
I am raising money for Alzheimer’s Research UK in memory of my grandad, George (Ray) Askey, who recently passed away after living with dementia for over three years.
My grandad was deeply loved. Watching dementia slowly take pieces of him was incredibly hard, not just for him, but for our entire family. It’s a cruel disease that steals moments and memories long before it ever lets go.
In his name, I’ll be running the Brighton Marathon, raising money to support the research that gives families hope for a different future. Alongside the marathon, I’ll also be fundraising through a workplace wellbeing challenge, where the aim is to run the longest total distance between 7th January and 5th February.
Every mile I run during this period, and on marathon day itself, is for my grandad and for the millions of families affected by dementia.
Alzheimer’s Research UK funds vital research into better diagnosis, improved treatments, and ultimately a cure. Right now, research is our only chance of changing the outcome for people living with dementia.
If you’re able to donate, thank you. Every contribution helps bring us closer to a future where families don’t have to go through what ours did.
