Story

"Every day, all over the world, people make one of the most difficult decisions in their lives: to leave their homes in search of a safer, better life." (www.amnesty.org)

I will walk St Albans Half Marathon on Sunday 9th June 2024 to raise funds that will go towards providing vital support to refugees and asylum seekers in Herts.

A few months back, I started volunteering for Herts Welcomes Refugees, a charity that welcomes refugees and people seeking asylum across Hertfordshire. HWR volunteers provide practical support to these new arrivals, helping them to connect with their communities and adjust to life in the UK.

Volunteers' give their time, care and energy to provide language support, source and distribute donations (clothes, furniture, toiletries, phones etc.), arrange activities to promote wellbeing, visit and befriend individuals and families, assist with paper work and so much more.

There has been a significant rise in number of asylum seekers and refugees and more funding is needed to continue provide the services that support them as they face the challenges presented by their circumstances.

You can read more about the work of HWR here: https://www.hertswelcomes.org.uk/

Please donate and share with friends, colleagues and family.

Thank you!
